The Toyota Prius is now faster than many of its competitors without a sacrifice to fuel economy.

Engines and performance
The new Toyota Prius puts a single power train under the hood: A 2.0-liter hybrid four-cylinder gasoline engine that delivers 194 horsepower. If you choose all-wheel drive, Toyota puts a high-output permanent magnetic electric motor on the rear axle, bumping up the total output of the powertrain to 196 horsepower: A 60% increase. The drive from zero to 60 mph now takes just 7.1 seconds, which is faster than the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid. Equipped with bigger front and rear brakes, the new Prius now stops faster than before.
Fuel economy
Even though the new Prius has a bigger engine and a more powerful powertrain than before, its fuel efficiency is actually better for the new model year. According to the EPA, the latest version of the Prius can give you 57 MPG in the city and 56 MPG on the highway when you're rolling with the front-wheel drive model. If you prefer the superior traction of all-wheel drive, Prius is still amazing at 53 MPG in the city and 54 MPG on highways around Warren and Sterling Heights MI.
